Deal Will Nearly Quadruple the Chain's Restaurant Locations
by 2014
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y., Nov. 6 /PRNewswire/
-- Maui Tacos, the quick casual restaurant concept that fuses
the great tastes of Mexico with the exotic flavors of the Hawaiian
Islands, has signed a development agreement with Lava Flow Ventures
of Sacramento, Calif. to open 62 Maui Tacos restaurants in California
over the next seven years. The new agreement expands an original
12 unit agreement signed in 2004. Lava Flow Ventures opened its
first Maui Tacos in February of this year in Roseville, Calif.
and is opening its second restaurant in November, in El Dorado
Hills, California.
According to Lava Flow Ventures chief operating officer, Bryon
Axt, interest from commercial brokers and developers wanting a
Maui Tacos restaurant in their retail developments has been overwhelming.
Lava Flow expects to open four more restaurants next year. The
counties in California slated for Maui Tacos are El Dorado, Placer,
Sacramento, Solano, Yolo, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, San Luis
Obispo, Santa Barbara, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside, Orange
and portions of Los Angeles.
"After our first Maui Tacos experience
in Hawaii, we knew that this concept had the food, fun and flair
every franchise needs to succeed," said Mr. Axt. "Our
first Maui Tacos restaurant has been so successful that we decided
to open 50 more, expanding our restaurants from Orange County
to Sacramento."
"Maui Tacos started in Hawaii, landed
out West and plans to move East at a rapid pace," said Jeff
Endervelt, CEO of Maui Tacos International, Inc. "We will
have 70 restaurants up and running within three years and have
200 restaurants open by 2014. This agreement has us well on the
way to accomplishing our goals, since we now have an 84 store
backlog, all scheduled to open within the next seven years."
Earlier this month, Maui Tacos announced another
development deal with Meritage Enterprises to open 10 Maui Tacos
restaurants in Houston over the next five years. The new franchisees
said that they expect to open the first two restaurants next year.
Maui Tacos is known for its chef-driven menu.
Its founder, acclaimed Hawaiian chef and restaurateur Mark Ellman,
opened the quick-casual concept in Maui after he discovered that
there were no good Mexican restaurants in Hawaii. In 1993, Ellman
created a cuisine like no other when he opened the first Maui
Tacos, offering a combination of the exotic tastes of the Hawaiian
Islands with the bold flavors of Mexico. The restaurant's success
led to its franchising, and today, there are 18 Maui Tacos locations
in 10 cities across the country.
Hours will vary by location. For more information,
